In an effort to reach the far-flung corners of Bajura districts, INF Nepal organised two health camps in Gaumul and Himali Rural Municipalities of Bajura on 7 and 8 December, respectively.
The primary objective of the camps was to identify potential disabilities through screenings, utilising validated tools and assessments to ensure accurate and early detection. The initiative also aimed to initiate timely and targeted treatment plans tailored to the specific disabilities identified, promoting optimal health outcomes.
During the camp, 474 individuals received expert health services, 85 received appropriate assistive devices, 50 benefited from physiotherapy services and over ten patients were referred to Green Pastures Hospital for further treatment and rehabilitation plans.
Health Camp in Gaumul RM:
In the Ghatmuna Primary Health Centre of Gaumul Rural Municipality, Bajura, a free health camp focused on orthopaedic and spine issues took place. Often isolated due to distance and economic challenges, villagers found relief as specialists provided services directly in their community.
The camp covered many treatments, including general medicine, orthopaedics, neurology, spine, and physiotherapy. Two hundred and two individuals benefited from this initiative. Free medication and 16 waist belts were distributed to patients with spine-related problems. Additional services like ear-related assistance, lab testing, and X-rays were also provided.
Chairperson of the Gaumul RM, Hari Bahadur Rokaya, expressed deep gratitude on behalf of Gaumul Rural Municipality, acknowledging the vital healthcare services brought to their doorsteps.
Health Camp in Himali RM:
In Himali Rural Municipality, INF Nepal conducted another health camp focusing on disabilities. This camp, held at Dhulachaur Primary Health Service Center, catered not only to the local community but also benefitted the people of nearby Humla and Mugu districts.
Medical specialists specialising in orthopaedics and physiotherapy provided free medical treatments. Moreover, assistive devices like crutches and waist belts were given to those in need. The camp didn’t just stop at medical assistance; it also aimed at long-term well-being.
As part of the broader community development programmes in Bajura districts, these health camps by INF Nepal underline the organisation’s commitment to addressing various health challenges people in remote areas face.
On the subsequent day, the INF team conducted a one-day primary training for the local government officials, including health workers, teachers, and security personnel of Himali Rural Municipality (RM).
The training focused on various rescue techniques for accidents, falls from trees, and sudden spine problems. These are scenarios where quick and correct intervention from the people can make a crucial difference in the lives of those who suffered such sudden accidents.
Participants learned a two-fold approach to examining injuries—preliminary and physical examinations. Emphasis was placed on evaluating injuries based on potential life risks. The training also covered diverse physical examination methods for individuals lying down due to injuries.
Earlier, the same team conducted a two-day post-disaster medical health camp in the earthquake-hit area of Aathbiskot Municipality, Rukum West.
These outreach initiatives complement INF Nepal’s ongoing community health and development programmes in Bajura districts, covering livelihood, agriculture, climate action, disaster risk reduction, gender empowerment, and social inclusion.
