Gita heard about INF’s fistula camp over her local radio. Incontinent from a series of protracted labours in childbirth Gita also carries the pain of having lost all three of her babies. She is now 50 years old and reflects on those labours. “My parents in law delayed taking me to hospital,” says Gita.
She was in labour with her first baby for six days and the protracted labour caused an obstetric fistula, a hole between the vagina and bladder. Her next two pregnancies ended in caesareans but again she was taken to hospital too late and lost both babies. Leaking urine and full of shame Gita’s husband left her and remarried years ago.
Gita’s mother brought her to INF’s fistula camp where she had surgery and has regained hope for the future.
