The death toll has risen to 66 and thousands of families have been displaced from the floods and landslides triggered by torrential rainfall across the country since last Friday [11 August].
Banke, Dang, Surkhet, and Kapilvastu were among the most affected districts by the floods. INF currently works in each of these areas. In Banke, four people have been killed and over 6,500 families displaced by the flood. INF’s Banke staff with support from INF’s disaster response team is coordinating with the local disaster response committee to provide relief to the affected families in the Raptipari areas of Banke District. The relief largely consists of food supplies, as requested by the local disaster response team, worth about NPR 5,00,000 [US$5000].
Dang, Kapilvastu and Surkhet are also at high risk with water levels continuing to rise as rainfall persists. INF offices in these districts are coordinating with the local authorities to provide relief as needed. There is also potential risk of epidemics and other health issues resulting from the flooding. INF’s health team is prepared to respond with medical assistance if requested by the District Public Health Administrator.
The adverse weather conditions have severely affected air traffic and obstructed roads affecting relief and rescue operations in many inundated areas. Please continue to pray for the affected families and that weather conditions would improve to allow relief to reach those in need.
