INF has worked in close partnership with the Nepali Government for more than 60 years. Today that partnership continues to grow as INF responds in times of crisis across the country. The ongoing political crisis has resulted in shortages of much needed equipment and ongoing disruption to transportation across Nepal. In Dang, INF has recently responded to an emergency request for medical supplies.

INF’s work in Dang used to be focused on tuberculosis and leprosy however this has now been transferred to the government. INF’s efforts are now centred on Community Based Rehabilitation [CBR], HIV prevention as well as maternal and child health projects. In recent weeks however the District Public Health Office in Dang turned to INF for help as life saving emergency medical supplies began to run out across the district’s public health institutions.

INF responded immediately, providing medicine and surgical gloves required in birthing centres. INF’s Dang office provided 3,000 ampules of oxytocin injections and 1,200 surgical gloves to the District Health Office. The oxytocin will provide coverage for almost four months in this emergency environment and potentially assist the delivery of around 1,500 babies.

The Senior Public Health Administrator Dr. Bhuwan Poudel thanked INF for their prompt response in supplying emergency medical support.
